Who is responsible

No account, no tracking

LaneVertex has no user account, no analytics, no advertising, no telemetry and no crash reporting. We do not receive your browsing, downloads or network traffic.

Your traffic

The network extension only chooses which of your own connections (Wi-Fi or a tethered phone) carries each new connection. It does not decrypt, inspect or store the content of your traffic and does not install certificates. Encrypted connections stay end-to-end encrypted.

Data stored on your Mac only

Settings, your blocklist (host names, IP addresses and app identifiers you add), download jobs and their resume data, and short-lived diagnostic results. To remove all of it, quit LaneVertex, delete the app and delete the folder ~/Library/Containers/com.lanevertex.provider-host.

Location permission

macOS requires location permission to show Wi-Fi network names. LaneVertex uses it only for that and does not store or send your location.

Network requests LaneVertex makes

Downloads, uploads and torrents you start, to the addresses you give (torrents also contact trackers, the public DHT, including router.bittorrent.com, router.utorrent.com, dht.transmissionbt.com and dht.libtorrent.org, and other peers, which see your IP address as usual for BitTorrent); the optional speed test in Diagnose, to speed.cloudflare.com; the connectivity check to captive.apple.com; in the direct-download version only, an update check to lanevertex.com/releases/macos.json when you ask for it. These servers see your IP address and request as with any connection; we do not receive their logs.

Browser extension

The optional LaneVertex extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox acts only when you right-click a magnet or .torrent link and choose "Send to LaneVertex". It passes that one link to the LaneVertex app on the same computer through the browser's native messaging; it asks only for the context menu and native messaging permissions, cannot read pages, history, tabs, cookies or downloads, stores nothing and makes no network requests itself. For a .torrent link, the app fetches the file itself, without your browser's cookies, and refuses addresses on your local network; link addresses are not logged. Nothing is sent to us.

Children

LaneVertex is not directed at children.
